Surface Engineering - Case Studies in Advanced Applications
Curriculum: Materials Engineering
Duration: 16 hours
SSD IMAT-01/A – Materials Science and Technology
Lecturer: Prof. Luca Lusvarghi
Associate Professor at the Department of Engineering “Enzo Ferrari” (UNIMORE)
Objectives
The course aims at explaining surface engineering processes and their use in advances applications, both in mechanical, electronics and other industrial fields’ applications. The purpose is also to show many different applications can benefit from the same surface treatments or coatings, and, simultaneously, the same technique can be applied on components very different from each other and working in very different environments.
Syllabus
Among the topics that will developed during the course, following an application-oriented approach, the candidate will find:
- Thermal and environmental barrier coatings for energy production and aviation applications
- Films and coatings for optical applications
- Thin film for solar cells applications
- Advanced films for cutting tools applications
- Coatings and films for space applications
- Polymeric coatings: corrosion resistance, hydrophobic and anti-sticking applications
- Self-healing, smart and self-cleaning coatings.
